Former vice mayor shot dead

Bauan, Batangas—On the way back to work at the municipal hall, this town’s 72-year-old former vice-mayor was ambushed and shot in the head by riding-in-tandem gunmen on Friday morning.  He died in the hospital 8 hours later.
 
   According to the Bauan's police chief, Superintendent Renato Mercado, the former vice mayor Julio Magboo Cruzat, a resident of Brgy. Baguilawa,  sustained a bullet wound in the head that caused his death. 

   Initial investigations revealed that Cruzat was on board his Toyota Revo with plate no. WLU-999 and was on his way to work in the municipal hall when he was waylaid by the suspects upon reaching Brgy. Manghinao at around 8:30 a.m.

   Cruzat was rushed to Bauan Doctors Hospital and was placed under critical condition but later died due to multiple organ failure.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the shooting and the suspects behind the assassination of the former vice mayor.

The Batangas police have  conducted a manhunt operation against the suspects. (Mei Magsino, SLI)
