The Southern Luzon Inquirer Team

    The Southern Luzon Inquirer is a bi-lingual week provincial newspaper published by Melinda M. Lubis, the first Philippine Daily Inquirer correspondent in Batangas who was awarded the Luis Prieto Award for Best Scoop of the Year in 2003. A fellow of the South East Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), Ms. Lubis is also one of the only two fellows of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) in Batangas.
The Reporter
     Mr. Marlon Alexander Luistro is the only Philippine delegate to the recent Global Investigative Journalism Conference 2010 held in Geneva, Switzerland. Also a PCIJ fellow, Mr. Luistro is a Developing Asia Journalism Awards finalist in Tokyo, Japan in 2008.
The Columnists
     Mr. Amading Cornejo is the executive director of the Batangas Social Development Foundation and regularly writes his opinion column: “Pinoy Tayo.” Mr. Cornejo was a martial law detainee during the Marcos regime and has been a writer for local and national publications since the 80’s.
    Atty. Chona Dimayuga, who pens the "Legally Back" used to be a provincial board member representing the third district of Batangas. With her column, Chona is definitely back from her long deserved vacation after the exhaustive 2010 elections
     Mr. Romeo Nicomedes’ passion was already into writing as a student, when he was professor at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños Laguna, and before he worked for the Department of Agrarian Reform until he retired. He now lives in Lipa city and makes “Isang Bagsak,” his weekly column on SLI as one of this journalism outlets.
     Retired Police Colonel Ricardo Macala was a former chief of police of Lipa City and other cities before he became the Chief of the Bureau of Corrections. Retired now, he regularly writes his column “Upuan sa Sulok” on SLI.
     Air Force Colonel Gerry Zamudio was the former information officer of the Philippine Air Force, and currently on schooling mode, but still writes his regular column on SLI entitled “Blue Angel.”
     Who could ever miss Mr. Dindo Montenegro’s charisma in all cultural events of Batangas? No one, because he’s always there. Mr. Montenegro is Taal town’s historian and culture expert. Born and bred in Taal, the heritage town of Batangas, Mr. Montenegro is true to his weekly column on SLI entitled “Taaleno.”
      The Cartoonist
     Multi-awarded editorial cartoonist, Mr. Gilbert Daroy has already won a number of national and international editorial cartoon contests and still draws for the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
    The Marketing Officer
    Ms. Jasmin Onate-Andal, former Ms. Balayan, is not just a beauty queen but also a returning marketing expert. The hottest addition to the SLI family, Jasmin is definitely sooo back in the marketing business!
