Ofel leaves 3 dead, state of calamity in Batangas town


 Batangas City--The death toll from Tropical Storm Ofel (Son-Tinh) according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

   In its Saturday afternoon report , the NDRRMC identified the latest fatality in Batangas as a certain  Redon Jake Dote, 13, Barangay Simlong, Batangas City, found dead Saturday due to flooding.

   Last Friday, two casualties were reported due to the floods in Batangas and were identified as Princess Nahira, 4; and Roberto Manongsong from Batangas City  who both drowned. 

   The town of Lobo was declared under the state of calamity after rains brought by tropical storm “Ofel” triggered massive floods in the province that submerged 26 villages in this town,  prompting around a thousand residents to flee their homes.

   The Lobo-Malabrigo-San Juan Road,  Batangas-Tabangao-Lobo Road,  Barangay Road of Batuhan, and  Barangay Bulihan, Batangas were also submerged and floods an were impassable.
Town Mayor Efren Diona said that while relief goods have been distributed in some barangays, several barangays remain isolated.

   In the town of San Juan, 21 villages as well as its district hospital were submerged in floods.
San Juan Municipal Social Works and Development Officer Arnold Enriquez said 279 residents have been evacuated.
