Town councillor, bodyguard ambushed in Batangas


Sto. Tomas, Batangas—A  town councilor and his bodyguard were ambushed by three motorcycle-riding gunmen in Brgy. San Francisco here on Sunday morning.
     Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., National Police spokesman, identified the victims as Alexander Guevarra, 47, a town councillor and Edgar Ariola, 43, his bodyguard.
     Guevarra sustained several gunshot wounds in the body while Ariola suffered a wound in the thigh.  
     According to the police investigators, the two were waylaid at around 7:40 a.m. at Purok Dos, Barangay San Francisco, this town while onboard a Toyota Fortuner with license plate TII-653 when they were shot by three men on a red Kawasaki “Barako” motorcycle.
     Though wounded, Ariola still managed to drive to the Saint Francis Cabrini Hospital here. Both men are now recovering.
    The police is still investigating the motive of the attack and the identities of the gunmen.(SLI)
