Extortionist cop nabbed

Batangas City – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested a cop who allegedly extorted money from a woman whose husband has a standing warrant of arrest,  in an entrapment operation in Brgy, Calicanto, this city on May 9.      
    
     Batangas CIDG identified the suspect as PO2 Lito Maranan, a cop assigned at the Bauan municipal police station.
     According to the report from Batangas Provincial Police Office, victim Jeannete Hernandez, a resident of Brgy. Aplaya, Bauan town, Maranan and his buddy PO1 Bonapart Convento, went to their house searching for her husband Jessy who had a standing arrest warrant.
    She said the two police officers asked her P50,000 in exchange for the freedom of her husband.  In the report, she said she negotiated with the two cops until they later agreed on P30,000. 
     Before the pay-off, Hernandez sought the help of the CIDG Batangas that resulted to the arrest of the two cops.
     Hernandez has already filed robbery extortion charges against the two cops.
