Cop, female diver drown in Batangas dive resort

Mabini, Batangas –A Baguio City-based policeman and a female companion drowned in a diving resort in this town last Saturday in what started as a diving session that turned into a deadly one.       According to the report from the Mabini Police Station, the two victims were identified as Zaldy Lamsis, 35, a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s Police Security and Protection Group, and businesswoman Midori Abalos, 34. Both were from Baguio City.
     Police investigations revealed that the two drowned after diving at 4:19 p.m. in front of the Planet Dive Resort in Sitio Balanoy in Barangay San Teodoro in this town.
     That night, only the body of Abalos was recovered about 30 meters from the shoreline by a banker of the Sea Spring Dive Resort.  Abalos was rushed to the Mabini General Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
     Mr. Joey Fullon, co-owner of the resort, initiated the retrieval operation and enlisted the service of dive masters from Manila led by Antonio “Toni Boy" Ongsiako to retrieve Lamsis’ body.
     The retrieval operation Operation lasted until 7:30 p.m. and continued on Sunday morning until Lamsis’ body was retrieved. Fullon also coordinated with the PNP Maritime, Philippine Coast Guard, Bantay Dagat and Dive Guide Association of Mabini to retrieve victim’s body.
     Lamsis’ body was  recovered at 8:30 in the morning on Sunday, about 100 meters away from the shoreline.
